Lunarpages Speed Test: How Fast Are They?

January 6th, 2009 @ 7:28 am Tagged with , ,

Accessing speed is always one of the concerns in picking web hosting. This is because the faster the speed the faster your website loads thus providing a better experience to your visitors. The accessing speed also does somehow reflect the quality of technology being used in the server. This is because a more accurate data transfer will result in lesser re-transfer and thus quicker speed.

How Fast Is Lunarpages?

Therefore how fast the download speed of the web hosting is a frequent asked question by most of the potential subscribers. They want to make sure their visitors have a pleasant time with them and have their website loads as fast as possible. Seeing the importance of the access speed, a web hosting company should invest their biggest portion in ensuring the quality of connection no matter what.

(However, it is worth noting that albeit the access speed depends largely on the hosting providers, the location of the visitor himself does play a role too. Imagine an access request is sent from Singapore to California. It does make a difference compared to from New York to California.)

Lunarpages in this case has actually done a good job. What they have done is to place their datacenter in one of the most high tech building in the world – AIS, San Diego. The technology and support in AIS are unquestionable including redundant power, redundant network, 24/7/365 support and etc. Perhaps this is the reason behind great speed and stable performance.

It sounds fishy though just to claim how fast and stable Lunarpages is. Therefore a speed test page is actually set up to prove that they are actually achieving it. After all, action speaks louder than words.

You can try downloading a variety of data of size 1MB, 5MB, 10MB, 50MB and 100MB from that test page. They are all zip files just for speed test purpose. From the download speed you will be able to justify my claim on Lunarpages. Be rest assured that the files are clean and virus/trojan free (I have done it personally).

For the purpose of comparisons, I am using a 512MB broadband internet connection and I’m from Asia. I downloaded the files during day time (suppose to be the peak time of internet traffic in my area). And the time I needed to get the 1MB file is 50seconds which is roughly 22 kB/second. The number is not very impressive though but seeing the peak period, my location and speed of connection I am using, I think the speed is awesome.

Do try the speed test and share with me your result.

As you have already known, Lunarpages is stationed at California. If you by any mean pass by their office, do snap a photo and share with me because my current location is too far to pay a visit to their headquater anyway. Below is a map to their office.

Never mind their headquarters, their actual servers and databases are actually not located at their office. They have their backbones at San Diego, Riverside, and Los Angeles (California), as well as Las Vegas, Nevada. They have altogether 4 databases as discussed in Lunarpages Data Center.

Lunarpages Sucks?

October 30th, 2008 @ 9:34 am Tagged with , , , ,

Lunarpages Sucks?

As a nature of business, it is certain that not 100% of customers will satisfy with a service. In Lunarpages web hosting, some subscribers think they have done a good job while some other subscribers have had a bad experience with them. And it is not difficult at all to find negative comments and complaints when you google Lunarpages review. Complaints about website deletions, rude customer supports, unstable up time and etc are easily available. Perhaps Lunarpages web hosting is really a bad host? And this is making Lunarpages to be infamous and further downgrade in their service?

To me, I try not to judge a web hosting just by their users review. This is because I believe a web hosting service (in fact every services in the world) is impossible to please each and every customers. Servicing is something very subjective and it is not easy to measure. How rude is rude for a customer support? I am sure everyone has their own definitions.

Lunarpages web hosting somehow remains as a quality hosting for me though I have read many complaints and agree that their experiences are horrible. (And I believe the stories are real and they have no reasons making up the stories) This is mainly because I do not have any experience that is considered as bad with Lunarpages after hosting with them for 3 years. So I thought what has gone wrong there? I have somehow come out with some find out.

While reading the complaints, I have realized a commonality among the reports. Most of the reports are written and filed a few years ago which I think they are no longer valid today. As web hosting is a tech-based business and obviously web hosting is improving from time to time. I am sure Lunarpages has learnt about their mistake (if any) and has improved a lot. Even Intel has gone into Quad core processors. There is no way Lunarpages is still running on Pentium III. Therefore if you got a chance in reading one of those reports, perhaps you should take a closer look at the date of writing.

Lunarpages is aggressive in their business all this while. They are alert from time to time on their market and hardware needs. They have recently upgraded their servers and have moved their data centers to American Internet Service (AIS), San Diego. AIS is one of the most prestigious buildings in the world with comprehensive facilities. Redundancy is a key concern in AIS and I am sure our data is well guarded with redundant OC48s and OC192s connections, redundant power supply, redundant data center and even redundant HVAC system. Clear enough if Lunarpages is not serious with their business they will not invest such an amount of money to upgrade their servers.

On top of the upgrades I am pretty surprised that Lunarpages does not increase their hosting charges. (Because I thought they want to cover back their initial cost of the new facilities) What is more surprising is that Lunarpages actually lower down their monthly charges! Lunarpages decreases the subscriptions fee even though they have better facilities now. So I think they are really aggressive in providing a quality web hosting.

That is how I see Lunarpages and those are the reasons why Lunarpages remains as a quality hosting for me. Although there are complaints on the hosting (which hosting companies do not have?) Lunarpages is working aggressively in improving themselves. It is undeniable Lunarpages is losing up the hosting market but that has nothing to do with providing quality services. (Perhaps Lunarpages is losing up in marketing?) And people are saying Lunarpages sucks? I seriously doubt it.

Please share your thought with me.

What Are The Latest Promotions?

September 27th, 2008 @ 8:46 am Tagged with , , ,

Lunarpages has recently gone unlimited with their storage, bandwidth and add-on domain. Lunarpages subscribers can now store files and data without limit. In fact they have already been giving the best with the previous features (15,000Gb storage and 15Tb bandwidth) but apparently they are not satisfied with themselves and has now gone unlimited. Besides the huge storage and bandwidth, Lunarpages now allow unlimited websites with add on domain hosted in one account. For usual most of the providers only allow 10 to 20 domains.

Free software worth of $775 is another selling point for Lunarpages. This bonus is just added into the hosting plan recently. They name this bonus as CoffeeCup which includes HTML Editor, Flash Form Builder and other Web Design Software. It definitely help those new webmaster in getting a well designed web site.

Not only they added additional features, Lunarpages has lowered their monthly charge as much as 40% to $4.95/mo (previously $6.95). It is unbelievable as you get extra but your pay lesser. Unfortunately the price $4.95 is only available for 12 months and 24 months subscriptions but I think that is fair enough.

For more information you could pay a visit to Lunarpages official website.

What differ this California web hosting company from others is the supports that they are providing. Lunarpages provides all sort of supports from email, telephone to ticket sumitting. They also have a good FAQ sessions. Actually having these features is nothing great about them but what is impressive is their speed in responding to the queries which I call it “an effective customer support”.

Lunarpages Review

Lunarpages is definitely committed in serving their customers. Why am I so confident? Because I myself am their customer for more than 3 years. I have several websites hosted with them including this one. I am satisfied with their service and have no complain. Although I gave only a “9 out of 10″ to them is because I hope they will not settle for what they have achieved now. The remaining 1 point deducted is with the hope that they will continue striving for the best of the best. View my full Lunarpages review.

Yes. It is officially started. Lunarpages is now doing promotions that they have revised their price and specsifications to a even more competitive package. And on top of all of these extra benefits, the pricing is only $4.95/month which is 20% lower han before! It is definitely a bargain! Visit To Lunarpages Data Centers

September 13th, 2008 @ 3:56 am Tagged with , , ,

Lunarpages Data Center In L.A.

Unfortunately enough, I have not yet get the honor to visit the data center of Lunarpages. I believe the visit to their data center will definitely be an eye opening experience as they are having the world top technology on hand.

As discussed in Lunarpages data center, we have known that data center is the backbone of a web hosting company. With the fact that all they sell is the storage inside the server computer. No wonder Lunarpages web host has invested in 4 data centers in getting their quality service. These data centers are not just normal computer rooms but they have unsurpassed network connections and serve to cover the accessibility across the world. For your information, their data center location, One Wilshire (located in Los Angeles) and Marquisnet (in Nevada) are among the best data centers in the world. Without questioning, the technology and facilities being used in the data centers are world-class. The server chipsets, HVAC systems, UPS, network connections, maintenance and etc.

Here is a review done by b2evolution.net after visiting the data center in Lunarpages. You might be interested in taking a closer look at what b2evolution.net has to say.

Review On Lunarpages

September 12th, 2008 @ 7:58 am Tagged with , ,

Lunarpages Score
9 / 10
Very Good

I would give a 9 to Luarnpages for reasons.

I always have this concept in mind that if one could survive in a tough field, like web hosting industry, one must be very capable. And for Lunarpages who has established for more than 8 years and not only still around but with her strong position in the market, the quality of their services speaks for itself.

I myself am a customer of Lunarpgages and have been around with them for more than 3 years. I host my web site, business, data, email and etc with Lunarpages and of cause they do not give me any problems. I have been one of their satisfied customers all this while except for one thing that I have not receive my loyalty rewards from them yet. ?

There are reasons why Lunarpages deserves the high scores and I have put them down in point form below.

High Reliability – 99.9% Uptime

99.9% uptime is what Lunarpages has achieved. Lunarpages has altogether 3 data centers to serve the users. Two are located in California and one in Las Vegas. All 3 have redundant power supply and are well designed for controlled humidity and air circulation. Speaking on this, Lunarpages is also famous of their server monitoring by technicians on duty. Meaning every moment of time, there is somebody on duty monitoring my web hosting. Any sparkle on the system will be found out. No wonder 99.9% uptime.

Effective Support

Support is one of my most concerned issues when come to picking up web hosting. And believe me Lunarpages has done a very good job on this. All sort of supports are provided by Lunarpages to resolve customers’ issue at the soonest time. One of the useful supports is the LunarDesk. It is a ticket system submitting your technical queries to them. I had some experiences dealing with this when my websites are not accessible due to some setting. They had shown professionalism in doing their job as a quick reply was received. When I say quick, that is almost instantly. That was indeed impressive. Later that I found out their support has won them numerous awards and 24/7/365 supports are available.

cPanel – User Friendly

Lunarpages uses cPanel as their webhosting control panel. Needless to say, it is user friendly enough. It is designed for lame man use and everything is just a few clicks away. With cPanel, I am able to manage features that had previously been reserved for the Lunarpages. With the ease of one-click, I can install applications, mange files and email addresses, create domain names, upload pictures and music, password protect directories, etc.

Free Softwares

I get free software with my hosting plan. Lunarpages from time to time will work with others developers to add features into their services. One of my favorite is CoffeeCup software. CoffeeCup make things easy to create cool websites. Their Award Winning HTML Editor, Flash Form Builder and other Web Design Software are truly make website designing easy and hassle free for me. To me, this serves as another plus point for Lunarpages.

Low Pricing

With all the services available, the price of the hosting is more than fair. It cost you only $4.95/mo for basic hosting plan. I sometime cannot really understand how Lunarpages manages to survive on the low price yet maintaining such a good quality.

Bottom line, will I recommend Lunarpages to people? You bet! Lunarpages is so far the best web hosting provider that I have ever experienced with. For sure I believe you might read somewhere else that Lunarpages experienced down time or slow or bad support, etc. I do not know what happen to them, but to me, they serve me well. Do not take me wrong I am not their huge customers and I do not get special treatment from them. What I feel is they are serious about their job and they do show their professionalism in conducting the business. It is their will that drive them to become one of the leaders in the industry.
